Going Live on Social Media

I know it can be overwhelming. Hosting a Live stream on Instagram or Facebook. If you have been on Facebook or Instagram for a minute you know that Going Live is super common. Teens are going live to sing to the world, major influencers like Dewayne Johnson "The Rock" are live to market their newest product, public speakers like Rachel Hollis are showing up with consistency every morning with over 2000 live viewers.

You are missing out if you have a business and have not thought about going live consistently.

Public speaking has been known as one of the greatest fears that many people face. It is easy to see why you may make excuses.

Why Go live?

If you have a business then you know to gain a lead or future customer they must know, like, and trust you.

Know: How well does your following know you?

It is difficult to get to know anyone via social media text post. What does their voice sound like? Are they kind people? What do they eat for breakfast? Are they worth to be a mentor? Are they consistent with their message?

The easiest way to answer these questions is to go LIVE.

Could you imagine trying to date someone via long distance with only handwritten letter? No! Not in todays world. That is why video is so critical today.

Like: Do your followers like or love you?

People buy from people that they like. I would go one step further. People buy more from people the love.

Trust: Do your followers trust you?

Trust is one of the cornerstones to any relationships. If your followers can not rely on you to do and be what you say, then your credibility will be destroyed. Consumers are searching for stability. If your product falls apart after a few days and you have guaranteed quality, you have destroyed the trust.

Another important factor is to know who your followers are.

Look at this breakdown from cnn.com. If you have not created an “avatar” or ideal customer then you may need to take a step back and define those parameters.

You can still schedule and produce lives but be sure you know WHO you are talking to.

Look at the following break down of consumers. If you are targeting Generation Z you want to be sure you are playing music in the background that relates to them.

  • Baby Boomers. Born 1946-1964 (Sometimes listed as 1943-1964)

  • Generation X. Born 1965-1980 (Sometimes listed as 1965-1979)

  • Millennials. Born 1981-1996 (Sometimes listed as 1980-2000)

  • Generation Z or Gen Z (sometimes called post-millennials) Born 1997-current.

In a grand conclusion, I shout- GO LIVE!!!

If you struggle with self-confidence, then get yourself a coach as soon as possible. If you want your business to succeed you better not be the reason it fails.

Do you have more questions about it?

What do you say? Have a plan. Maybe you can run a morning series on a certain topic that adds value. Are you selling make-up? Set up a series where you interview make-up artist. You do not have to do it alone. You can have someone go live with you. This will also increase your engagement because you will be speaking to their audience and yours.

What buttons do you press? See directions below from Instagram.com

· Tap in the top left of Feed or swipe right from anywhere in Feed.

· Scroll to Live at the bottom of the screen, then tap .

· The number of viewers appears at the top of the screen and comments appear at the bottom.

· You can add a comment by tapping Comment at the bottom of the screen.

· Tap a comment and tap Pin Comment to pin it so that viewers can see it more easily.

· When you're done, tap End in the top right then tap to confirm. From there, you can tap in the top left to save it to your camera roll, or share it to IGTV

How will you set up your camera?

It does not have to be complicated. Have an uncluttered background with good light. You do not have to have a million-dollar studio to get this started.

Will anyone show up? Yes. It may be one person or more. That is not the important piece at the beginning. The LIVES on Instagram are saved as IGTV videos that can repurposed on other social media platforms. They will live on your Instagram for people to continue to watch in the future if you decide.

Here are a few suggestions to make a live feel more comfortable and manageable.

1. Schedule a time when you have plenty of time to look the part. Unless you are leading a workout, series or walking and running live outside in your work out clothes you will want to look professional.

2. Know that you can delete it. If you are not happy with the result delete it and try again.

3. Set a time limit. Start by getting on for 10 minutes with a short series. Maybe a coffee talk? Do not stress.

If you made it this far go to @scrollandpost on Facebook or Instagram and shoot me a DM or comment with your next planned IG live. Let me know who you are so I can follow you. I look forward to your next LIVE.
